The Senate President, Godswill Obot Akpabio, has petitioned the Police Inspector General (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, demanding a comprehensive investigation into the assassination plot allegations leveled against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The petition came in the wake of Senator Natasha’s homecoming on April 1st, shortly after the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, where she disclosed to her constituents that there is a plot by the Senate President and Yahaya Bello to eliminate her in Kogi State to give the populace the notion that it is a well-planned act by her constituents.
In the April 3rd petition, Akpabio filed a denial, labeling Natasha’s allegations as a heinous lie and a reckless, deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation.
Akpabio branded the assassination allegation as one that was politically motivated to cause rancor, chaos, and civil unrest in the country, and as a direct attack on his persona.
Akpabio stated that there was no tangible evidence to corroborate or substantiate the suspended senator’s claim, hence she should be prosecuted by the law.
Also highlighting the negative impact the video and statement have made across various platforms like radio, print, social media, and television, Akpabio urges the necessary authorities to treat the matter with utmost urgency and attention.
His words:
โI write to formally bring to your attention and seek immediate investigation and prosecution of a criminally defamatory and malicious statement made against me by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a suspended member of the Nigerian Senate on the 1st of April, 2025 and which was widely publicised on radio stations, televisions and newspapers, including the social media.”
โIn the public outburst at Kogi State while addressing her audience, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan falsely alleged that I instructed the former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, to โassassinate her in Kogi State instead of Abujaโ with the intent of making it appear that her constituents were responsible for her death.โ
“It is a reckless and deliberate attempt to damage my reputation, endanger my life and security, and incite political unrest.โ
โHer motive was clear, which was to incite the public, manipulate sentiments, and malign my person and office in the eyes of the Nigerian people and the international community.”
“I request an immediate investigation into the false and inciting allegation, and the prosecution of Akpoti-Uduaghan under relevant laws for criminal defamation, false accusation, incitement, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.”
