The identities of the Mobile Police Officers seen receiving money from some Chinese nationals in a Chinese-owned mining company around Sagamu, Ogun State, have been revealed.
Apparently, on Wednesday, the 16th of April, a video clip showing men identified as officers of the Mobile Police Force (MOPOL) attached to a Chinese-owned mining company in Sagamu, Ogun State, receiving cash from individuals of foreign nationalities believed to be Chinese was recorded.
Making its way online, the clip garnered widespread attention, with many calling out the issues of bribery and other unethical practices that characterize security personnel in Nigeria.
While some officers have defended the actions of those indicted in the video, claiming that the money was a form of appreciation from the companyโs owner and not a bribe, others have maintained the position that it was bribe-based, especially as the police have a knack for receiving bribes.

In a later development, the Public Relations Officer of the Police Force, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Thursday expressed that the actions of the Mobile Policemen as captured in the viral video contradict the ethics and values which the Force is built on.
ACP Olamuyiwa Adejobib equally revealed that the officers involved in such practice are undergoing due sanctions.
“The actions of the officers do not represent the established ethics, standards, and core values of the Nigeria Police Force,โ ACP Adejobi said.”
“The Force has zero tolerance for such unprofessional behaviour and other forms of misconduct, which undermine public trust and confidence.โ
The Police have also warned individuals and cooperate entities that employ the services of Policemen to be used as personal guards, escorts and specialized services.
“The Nigeria Police Force hereby cautions individuals and organisations privileged to the services of Police personnel, particularly as escorts and guards or other specialised services, to desist from any act capable of degrading the integrity of its officers and bringing the Force to disrepute,โ Adejobi added.
Stressing on the Force’s commitment and doggedness, Adejobi expressed that the police is doing all within its wit to rid the force of unprofessional and corrupt elements whose actions have been reproachful.
“We remain committed to purging the Force of unprofessional elements whose actions negate our mission to serve with integrity,โ Adejobi added.
