President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to upholding fair labour practices and safeguarding the rights and dignity of Nigerian workers.
Represented by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Maigari Dingyadi, at the inaugural quadrennial delegates’ conference of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), the President emphasized the need to strengthen existing labour laws and eliminate exploitation in the workplace.
“While technology holds the power to transform industries, spur economic growth, and create new opportunities, it also brings challenges such as automation, job displacement, and widening inequality,” Tinubu stated.
He called for a balanced approach, urging all stakeholders to embrace digital innovation while ensuring that fairness, equity, and justice remain at the heart of Nigeria’s labour policies.
The President also charged the TUC to elect visionary and dedicated leaders who embody service, accountability, and innovation—qualities essential to navigating the rapidly evolving world of work.
“Choose leaders who will champion the cause of workers with integrity and foresight,” he said.
Tinubu applauded the TUC’s leadership for their relentless advocacy for workers’ welfare, particularly in the wake of the fuel subsidy removal in 2023 and their crucial role in negotiating the new minimum wage.
“You are a vital part of our mission to build a nation where every citizen has the opportunity to reach their full potential,” he concluded.
