The Department of State Services (DSS) has thwarted a major plot to spark tribal violence in Warri, Delta State, leading to the arrest of a foreign-based Army major and several accomplices.
Sources reveal that the Army officer, an Itsekiri native serving in a foreign military, was allegedly recruited by a man identified as *Collins* to procure weapons and ammunition aimed at fueling tensions in the oil-rich Niger Delta region.
During a covert operation near Asaba, Delta State, DSS operatives apprehended the arms supplier and recovered a cache of weapons, including over 50 AK-47 rifles, six pump-action shotguns, and more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition. The Army Major was later intercepted in Lagos while attempting to flee Nigeria, reportedly en route to the United Kingdom.
A security source stated, “An Itsekiri man, currently serving in a foreign military, is alleged to have acquired arms and ammunition under the instruction of one Collins, with the aim of inciting unrest in Warri.”
The DSS confirmed that all suspects are in custody and emphasized that a full and transparent investigation is underway. The agency pledged to ensure that anyone found guilty of plotting to destabilize the region would be brought to justice.
