In a bold and stirring call for party discipline and renewed commitment, former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki has urged members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who no longer believe in the party’s vision to take the honorable path and exit. According to Saraki, only a cohesive and truly committed group of loyalists can restore the PDP’s strength and relevance in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
Speaking during a strategic meeting with stakeholders in Abuja, Saraki emphasized that the PDP could no longer afford the burden of internal division and double-mindedness among its ranks. He described the upcoming period as crucial for the party’s future, especially as it gears up for forthcoming electoral battles.
_”If you no longer believe in the vision of the PDP, if you are no longer committed to the ideals that bind us together, it is better to leave. This party needs loyalists, not opportunists,”_ Saraki stated passionately, drawing loud applause from party faithful present at the meeting.
The former Senate President, who has long been seen as one of the leading voices advocating for reforms within the PDP, said the time had come for a major soul-searching exercise. He argued that the party’s recent setbacks at both national and state levels could largely be traced to the activities of members who were either indifferent or actively sabotaging its goals from within.
_”We cannot build a strong and credible alternative for Nigerians if we keep accommodating people whose loyalty wavers at every critical moment. PDP must be a fortress of true believers, ready to sacrifice, ready to stay through thick and thin,”_ Saraki insisted.
He further warned that a house divided against itself cannot stand, urging party leaders at all levels to undertake honest evaluations of their structures and immediately weed out internal saboteurs. According to him, the PDP must prioritize unity, sincerity, and hard work over mere numbers if it is to reclaim its rightful place in Nigeria’s political space.
Saraki’s comments come amid ongoing talks of a major reorganization within the PDP, following the party’s disappointing performance in the 2023 general elections. Sources within the party suggest that high-level consultations are underway to reform the leadership structure, revitalize the membership base, and redefine the party’s strategic direction.
Political analysts say Saraki’s charge reflects growing frustration among the party’s committed leadership with the persistent culture of betrayal, disloyalty, and personal ambition that has dogged the PDP since it lost power at the center in 2015.
In concluding his remarks, Saraki expressed optimism that, with the right commitment and unity of purpose, the PDP could bounce back stronger than ever. He called on genuine members to roll up their sleeves and get to work, assuring them that the reward for steadfastness would ultimately be a reinvigorated party capable of winning the hearts of Nigerians once again.
_”We have a chance to rise from the ashes. But first, we must clean our house,”_ he declared.
As the PDP braces for a challenging but promising future, all eyes will be on how the party’s leadership responds to Saraki’s clarion call — and whether it can indeed separate the wheat from the chaff in time for the battles ahead.
