The South-South Zonal chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern warning to controversial social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), demanding a public apology within seven days over his disparaging remarks against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
In a viral video, VDM had described Akpabio’s attendance at the funeral of the Pope as “shameful,” arguing that the Senate President should have prioritized visiting crisis-hit Nigerian states instead.
Responding to the criticism, APC’s South-South Zonal Organising Secretary, Blessing Agbomhere, released a statement condemning VDM’s comments as blackmail, slander, and character assassination.
“VeryDarkMan is fast becoming notorious for spreading blackmail and slander under the guise of being a social crusader and advocate for the masses,” Agbomhere stated.
He clarified that Akpabio’s attendance at the funeral was a decision made by President Bola Tinubu, who chose Akpabio as Nigeria’s representative due to his devout Catholic faith and impeccable character.
“President Tinubu, recognizing Akpabio’s unblemished reputation as a family man and a devoted Catholic, found him most suitable to represent Nigeria at such a significant religious event. What exactly is shameful about that?” Agbomhere questioned.
He urged Nigerians to disregard what he termed VDM’s “uninformed outbursts,” noting that the federal government remains committed to addressing the country’s security challenges.
“Upon his return from France and the United Kingdom, President Tinubu immediately convened a meeting with security chiefs, issuing firm directives for a more aggressive approach to tackling insecurity. Is this the action of a leader indifferent to the plight of Nigerians?” Agbomhere added.
The APC maintained that VDM must issue a formal apology within one week or face further consequences.
