Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former Special Adviser on Political Affairs to President Bola Tinubu, has urged the president not to seek re-election in 2027, advising instead that he focus on national reform and grooming a younger successor.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s *Politics Today*, Baba-Ahmed stated that President Tinubu’s legacy would be better served by prioritizing national development over personal ambition.
“If I had the chance to meet President Tinubu, I would tell him not to run in 2027. There are better things he could do than remain president. He could dedicate the next two years to addressing the nation’s pressing issues and mentoring a younger, more energetic, and focused leader,” he said.
Baba-Ahmed stressed the importance of youth leadership in Nigeria’s future, emphasizing the need for a successor who possesses vitality, vision, and commitment to national progress.
He added, “Use the remaining two years to fix Nigeria—stabilize the economy, tackle insecurity, and build a legacy of true leadership.”
His remarks have sparked conversations around succession planning, leadership renewal, and the role of elder statesmen in shaping Nigeria’s political future.
