The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, is on an official mission to China to advance discussions on a major water supply project aimed at improving the lives of residents in FCT satellite towns.
According to a statement released on Thursday in Abuja by Mr. Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communications and Socials, Wike is currently in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, en route to China.
During the visit, the minister is expected to engage with top executives of the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction (CGCOC) Group, a key player in the planned water infrastructure project.
This visit follows the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in September 2024 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his official trip to China. The MoU, signed with both the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and CGCOC Group, focuses on boosting electricity and water supply across the FCT, with particular emphasis on underserved satellite towns.
The initiative is a critical component of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to rebuild public confidence through impactful, people-centered projects. In alignment with this agenda, the President has approved a N50 billion allocation for the provision of potable water to key area councils, including Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Kuje.
Wike’s trip is expected to finalize discussions and lay the groundwork for swift implementation of the project, reinforcing the federal government’s commitment to equitable development and improved living standards for all FCT residents.
