Tension continues to rise across Nigeria’s academic landscape as more than 8,000 candidates have filed a legal petition against the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), alleging that system failures led to unfairly low scores in the recently released 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.
The People’s Insight reports that the results, released on Friday, May 9, 2025, have sparked widespread outrage, with a staggering 75% of candidates scoring below 200. The unusually low performance has raised questions about the credibility and technical efficiency of JAMB’s examination process.

A social media user with the handle @winexviv revealed that 8,391 students have joined the lawsuit, demanding full disclosure of the exam data and a thorough investigation into alleged system glitches.

“Currently, we have 8,391 students who have submitted official complaints regarding technical issues during the 2025 UTME,” @winexviv wrote on X. “There is overwhelming evidence pointing to JAMB’s system inefficiencies, which have caused significant psychological distress to thousands of students.”
He added, “The futures of these students hang in the balance. We refuse to remain silent while their destinies are jeopardized!”
In a related development, a disturbing incident has added urgency to the situation. A young male candidate reportedly collapsed after checking his JAMB result online. His sister, who posted a video of the event on TikTok, said he suffered a severe anxiety attack due to the shocking score and had to be rushed to the hospital.
With legal pressure mounting and public trust eroding, JAMB is under intense scrutiny. Many are now calling for an independent review of the 2025 UTME process, as students, parents, and education stakeholders await a response from the examination body.
