In a dramatic political shift, all three serving senators from Kebbi State elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, who presided over Tuesday’s plenary session, read their individual defection letters to the Senate. The senators—Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi North), and Garba Maidoki (Kebbi South)—formally announced their exit from the PDP, citing unresolved internal conflicts within the party.
The high-profile defections come amid a broader wave of political realignments sweeping across several states and signal deepening instability within the PDP ahead of its critical National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for May 27.

Observers say the mass exit of Kebbi’s federal lawmakers may have far-reaching implications for the PDP’s prospects in the North-West and could potentially influence the party’s strategy and leadership dynamics at the upcoming NEC session.
This latest move underscores the mounting pressure on the opposition party as it grapples with a growing list of defections and internal divisions threatening its unity and relevance.
