The family of a security guard in Ebonyi State is demanding justice following his brutal murder by colleagues who accused him of theft.
The victim, a native of Ezzama in Ezza South Local Government Area, worked as a security guard at the Permanent Site of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) in Ezzamgbo, Ohaukwu Local Government Area.
According to the state police spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, the deceased was allegedly beaten by fellow security guards after being accused of stealing within the university premises.
“They claimed they caught someone stealing at EBSU’s permanent site and took the law into their own hands by assaulting him,” Ukandu stated.
Although the victim did not die immediately, the suspects later decided to take him to the police station. However, officers advised them to seek medical attention for the injured man. Unfortunately, he was confirmed dead at the hospital.
Following the incident, three suspects have been arrested.
The victim’s family, through their legal representative, has petitioned the police, alleging that the perpetrators committed the crime and only took the body to the hospital to cover their tracks. They are calling on the Commissioner of Police to ensure justice is served.
