Die-hard fans of the Nollywood veteran actress Funke Akindele have expressed their displeasure over the refusal of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) to include the Box Office Queen in their 2025 nomination list.
The aggrieved fans registered their frustration and disgust over the reasons why Funke Akindele, having starred in Bolanle Austen-Peters’ House of Ga’a, which earned a nomination spot, would not be on the list as one of the nominees.
Prior to this moment, fans have described the 2024 AMVCA awards as somewhat biased, following the shocking outcome of the event that left the superstar with no award for โA Tribe Called Judah’ despite several nominations, including Best Makeup, Best Writing in a Movie, Best Lead Actress, Best Movie, and Best Supporting Actor.
A counter comment aiming to put the actress’ fans in their place noted that Funke Akindele actually holds the record for the most nominated actress/filmmaker at the AMVCA, and the record for most wins for an actress, with six, including winning Best Actress in a Comedy in 2016, 2017, 2020, and 2022.
Another supported the claim of the earlier comment, stating that the actress couldn’t be nominated because no submission of her movies was made to the AMVCA for review. We believe that Funke Akindele is talented and should be recognized for her grand contributions to the entertainment industry.
