Rotimi Amaechi, the former governor of Rivers State, disclosed in an interview with DW on Saturday that the root cause of the crisis in Rivers State is money sharing.
The former governor expressed that the duo of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara are involved in a money-sharing themed dispute. He furthered his speech by mentioning that they were at loggerheads over how the state’s allocations should be shared.
โThe fight between the current governor of Rivers State and the FCT minister is about sharing money. If not, what is the quarrel? Nigerians donโt dislike corruption anymore. Iโve not seen anybody on the street questioning what the problem is. Can both of them speak to the public and tell us what the problem is about?”
The ex-governor branded the emergency rule as unconstitutional calling on the National Assembly to refute it.
“I urge the National Assembly to reject this illegality.”
“As a former state governor and chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), I am not unaware of the role elected governors in the country can play to halt this descent and reverse the unlawful actions of Mr. President. I commend the governors that have spoken against the unlawful suspension.”
