Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has barred the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, from being hosted anywhere in the state, citing concerns over potential threats to public peace.
Governor Diri made this declaration during a security press conference on Friday, March 28, following reports that a certain George Turner was planning to organize an event in Wike’s honor.
“Individuals from this state, particularly one George Turner, are attempting to disturb the peace. Recently, there was a social media post under his name, stating that he intends to host the Minister of the FCT at Tombia Roundabout in Bayelsa,” Diri stated.
The governor stressed that Wike, not being a Bayelsa indigene, has no right to hold such a gathering in the state without authorization. He further directed that no public venue or institution should be used for political gatherings without prior approval from the state government.
This move adds to the growing political tensions between the Bayelsa governor and the FCT minister, both of whom have had a strained relationship in recent times.
