A tragic accident in Ogun State turned the joyous Eid-el-Fitr celebration into a day of mourning as one person lost their life, and eleven others sustained injuries in a ghastly auto crash.
The accident occurred at the Five Star area in Ogijo, Ogun State, around 6:15 a.m. on Sunday. According to reports, the crash involved a truck with registration number GBE 243 XB and a Mazda bus registered as KSF 542 YG. Eyewitnesses revealed that the truck lost control after one of its front tyres suddenly burst, leading to a collision with the stationary 18-seater bus that was picking up passengers at the time.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, stated that thirteen people were involved in the crash—two occupants in the truck and eleven in the bus. Unfortunately, one person was confirmed dead, while the remaining eleven sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
“The truck driver reported that the accident was caused by the sudden burst of his front right tyre, which resulted in a loss of control. The truck then veered off course and crashed into the bus, which was stationed to pick up passengers,” Akinbiyi explained.
Authorities have since urged motorists to conduct routine vehicle checks and maintain strict adherence to road safety measures to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
