Former Governor of Delta State and the running mate of the People’s Democratic Party presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa, has put forth a bold claim that he has no fears regarding the alleged N1.3 trillion naira funds that were diverted during his tenure.
Ifeanyi Okowa, who granted an interview with Arise News on Tuesday, noted that he performed creditably well during his eight-year tenure as governor of Delta State.
โI did well for the people of the state. Petitions can be written by anybody, but whatever petitions are written, the right of investigation is with the EFCC. So, there are no fears concerning that at all.”
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has launched a probe into Ifeanyi Okowa over the alleged misappropriation of N1.3 trillion between 2015 and 2023, when he was the governor of Delta State.
A supporting allegation also revealed that the former governor failed to provide proper accountability for an additional N40 billion used in the purported acquisition of an eight percent equity stake in UTM Floating Liquefied Natural Gas.
Reports disclosed that Ifeanyi Okowa had allegedly used state funds to purchase a substantial amount of shares in a major bank as part of an LNG deal.
However, the former governor has dismissed the money laundering allegations, describing them as baseless attempts to tarnish his political reputation.
