Kebbi: Three Officers Arrested, DPO Redeployed Over Alleged Murder of Suspect in Custody
Three Police officers from the Jega divisional officer are currently being detained at the Kebbi State criminal investigation unit for allegedly murdering a suspect in their custody.
The Command’s image maker, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, in a statement, said that the suspect was arrested for stealing the rims of the trailer in Jega, but the suspect reportedly collapsed during the investigation and later died after he was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The statement added that following the death of the suspect, the commissioner of Police Kebbi state CP. Bello. M.Sani ordered an investigation to ascertain the death of the suspect, which revealed that the three officers being detained had a hand in the death of the suspect.
However, the divisional Police officer Jega local government was given a query and immediately redeployed to give room for further investigation into the case being handled by the state criminal investigation unit (SCIU).
Bello urged officers and men of the Command to continue to exhibit professionalism while discharging their duties. “We wish to assure members of the public that the Police will guarantee their safety in custody or otherwise the statement added.
