Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has broken his silence on the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, expressing both sympathy and skepticism towards the embattled and suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Addressing the crisis, Wike remarked, “I told him, ‘I don’t think you have the capacity to genuinely broker peace, because if you did, it would be easy.’” His statement comes amid rising political tensions, marked by daily demonstrations from Fubara’s supporters and increasing verbal attacks on perceived opposition figures.

Wike questioned the sincerity of Fubara’s peace efforts, asking, “If you are truly pursuing peace, why are your people on the streets every day, hurling insults? How does that reflect any commitment to reconciliation?”
Reflecting on the root of the crisis, Wike suggested that Fubara’s current predicament was self-inflicted. “He wouldn’t be in this situation if he had simply listened to those who defied all odds to elevate him to power,” he said. “These were people who put themselves on the line just to support him.”
Despite the sharp criticism, Wike emphasized his readiness for dialogue. “I’m open for peace,” he stated, leaving the door ajar for potential reconciliation in the troubled state.
