Saudi Arabia officials have confirmed the sighting of the crescent moon, marking the beginning of Dhul Hijjah, the final month in the Islamic calendar.
Apparently, the sighting of the moon is so crucial in the Islamic faith as it signifies the official commencement of the sacred period.
Officials noted that the Dhul Hijjah will begin on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
During this month, Muslim faithful worldwide, particularly those undertaking the pilgrimage will gather in Makkah to perform the hajj.
According to the announcement, the Day of Arafat will fall on June 5, and Eid-el-Kabir will be celebrated on June 6.
Eid-el-Kabir is one of the most revered Islamic festivals, observed through special prayers, the sacrifice of animals, and charitable acts.
In Nigeria, the Sultan of Sokoto, who also heads the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, had previously urged Muslims to begin moon-sighting efforts on Tuesday.
His advisory, issued through the religious affairs committee, encouraged observers to report sightings to their district heads for onward transmission to the council.
