Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, former Senate President and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Reconciliation Committee, has reaffirmed his commitment to revitalizing the party, expressing optimism that it will recover and regain strength by 2027.
Speaking on Tuesday, June 3, during a media briefing at his constituency office in the Ajikobi area of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, Saraki addressed enthusiastic party members participating in the PDPโs re-registration exercise.
Saraki conveyed confidence in the partyโs ability to resolve its leadership challenges, emphasizing his dedication to sustaining Nigeriaโs democratic process through a strong and active opposition.
He also extended his gratitude to Nigerians for their continued patience and support for the PDP.
His words:
โI want to use this opportunity to reassure our members across the country that we are doing our best to rescue the situation of the party.
“We are confident that we will tackle the situation. We are committed to it. Because we are all committed to fledging democracy and a fledgling democracy means a vibrant opposition.
“We all have to make personal and group sacrifices for the interest of the country,โ he mentioned.
Continuing his remarks, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, the former Governor of Kwara State and former Chairman of the Nigeria Governorsโ Forum (NGF) disclosed that reconciliation efforts are actively underway ahead of the Peoples Democratic Partyโs (PDP) National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for the end of June. The meeting aims to address the internal challenges facing the party.
โโSo we are confident that the PDP will bounce back in 2027.โ The only viable opposition party is PDP, and yes ,there are challenges, and I have taken it upon myself to do my best. I’m seeing responses from our colleagues who are also ready to settle our differences,โ he expressed.
Speaking on the efforts to resolve the crisis, Saraki mentioned that groundwork is being laid among the various factions and party members to achieve leadership stability.
His words:
โSome might still go, and some might still join us. Like today,I received new members to the party at the state level.Once there is stability at the top, Iโm sure weโll begin to see a better future for PDP.”
