On Wednesday, June 11, Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, announced that President Tinubu would be attending a joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday, June 12. This development prompted a change in the dayโs proceedings.
According to Imohiosen, the President will now deliver his Democracy Day speech from the chambers of the National Assembly.
He also confirmed that all other events planned to commemorate the day will go ahead as scheduled. Prior to this, a notice sent to the media revealed that the traditional military parade initially planned to celebrate the 26th Democracy Day on June 12, 2025 had been called off.
The cancellation of the parade was not explained. The notice further stated that the President is expected to attend a special joint session of the National Assembly at 12 p.m.
The updated itinerary was detailed in the notice, which was issued by Abdulhakeem Adeoye on behalf of the Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
