Martins Otse, the controversial social media activist widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will invite him for questioning following a petition lodged by a legal practitioner Blessing Agbomhere.
In a recent social media post, VDM attached a copy of the petition, which urged the anti-graft agency to investigate the financial activities, asset acquisitions, and funding sources of both Otse and fellow activist Deji Adeyanju.
The petitioner argued that the activists’ recent public engagements and organisational capacity have raised concerns regarding the origin and legitimacy of their financial backing.
The petition called on the EFCC to undertake a comprehensive forensic audit into the income streams, corporate affiliations, and monetary transactions associated with the two individuals.
“Conduct a comprehensive forensic investigation into the sources of income, assets, financial resources, and funding arrangements of Mr. Deji Adeyanju and Mr. Martins Vincent Otse (VeryDarkMan),” the letter reads in part.
“Ascertain whether all monies received, controlled, expended, solicited, or administered by them were lawfully acquired and properly accounted for;
“Investigate all bank accounts, corporate entities, foundations, trusts, platforms, associations, agents, and intermediaries linked to their financial activities.
“Determine whether any aspect of their financial dealings discloses indicators of money laundering, unlawful enrichment, concealment of beneficial ownership, tax evasion, unlawful fundraising, foreign financial interference, or any other economic and financial crime known to law.
“Investigate whether any foreign individuals, organisations, governments, foundations, or interests have provided direct or indirect funding, logistical support, or material assistance to their activities.
“Collaborate, where necessary, with relevant intelligence, security, anti-corruption, and financial regulatory agencies to determine whether any national security concerns arise from the source, movement, or utilisation of funds associated with their operations.”

In his response, VeryDarkMan characterised the petition as a calculated move to stifle dissent and muzzle critics of the current administration.
He argued that the government, failing to safeguard the welfare of Nigerians, is now resorting to legal intimidation to suppress voices advocating for good governance.
“They want to stop us from speaking against this evil government that have failed to protect the lives of Nigerians, so they used their people to wrote petitions,” he wrote in the caption.
“They say APC wrote a petition to efcc to investigate myself and Deji Adeyanju according to the petition they are claiming we are fighting against bad governance and therefore we are being sponsored so they need to investigate us.
“They claim our protest is so organized and well organic the are surprised by the turnout of Nigerians that wants change, so for that reason APC member who is also a lawyer wrote a petition.
“In a nutshell they want to claim we are sponsoring terrorism in other to disrupt APC government.”
In a follow-up clip, the controversial social media activist alleged that the anti-graft agency will soon summon him over the petition.
