The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has declared that Nigeria has “come out of the woods” under President Bola Tinubu, boasting that the President has outperformed every democratically elected Nigerian president during their first term.
Morka made the claim on Monday during an interview with Channels Television, arguing that Tinubu inherited an economy that was “completely in a mess” when he assumed office in 2023.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has outperformed any president in his first term. He has outperformed any democratically elected president in this country in their terms,” Morka said.
Asked about the indicators supporting the claim, the APC spokesperson said the administration’s performance was evident in available economic indicators.
“The indicators are res ipsa loquitur as we say in law; they speak for themselves. This president inherited an economy that was completely in a mess,” he said.
Morka blamed successive administrations for the country’s economic difficulties before Tinubu took office, describing former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration as a transition from the 16-year rule of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He said Buhari “was a stopgap president” who kept the country from “tipping over the precipice” before handing over to Tinubu.
Morka further claimed that Tinubu’s policies had transformed Nigeria’s economy, saying even some critics of the administration were beginning to acknowledge its progress.
According to him, Nigeria has “come out of the woods” at the macroeconomic level under Tinubu, although he did not provide specific indicators or detailed comparisons with previous democratically elected presidents to substantiate the claim.
