Delta Govt Begin Training of 300 in Tech Skills
With the aim to ensure the technological advancement of the state through digital skill acquisition, the Delta State Government, through the Ministry of Science and Technology, yesterday kick-started the M.O.R.E ICT- Youth Empowerment Program ( YEP) for 300 persons across the state.
Speaking yesterday at the Innovation Hub, Asaba, during the flag- of the M.O.R.E ICT- Youth Empowerment Programm ( YEP), Commissioner of Science and Technology, Hon Odinigwe Odigie, said that the program to equip persons with skills to thrive in the technological field while ensuring the technological advancement of the state.
He revealed that the 300 participants will trained in specialized tech fields of their choice after which they will be empowered with starter packs.
He mooted that the initiative of Governor Rt. Hon Elder
Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori through the program aims to mentor, Orient, Resource, and
Empower (M.O.R.E) our youth, ensuring they have access to quality ICT training,
entrepreneurship opportunities, and digital tools that will prepare them for the jobs of today and the innovations of tomorrow.
According to him, ” Today marks a significant milestone in our state’s digital transformation as we launch the M.O.R.E ICT-YEP (ICT Youth Empowerment Program) a government initiative dedicated to equipping our youth with the digital
skills and opportunities they need to thrive in today’s fast-evolving world.
The M.O.R.E ICT-YEP is more than just a program; it is a vision, a mission, and a
pathway to a brighter future building a smarter, more efficient, and more inclusive future for all our young people. In a world driven by technology, digital literacy is no longer optional, it is essential”.
He said that the M.O.R.E ICT-YEP program is designed to bridge the digital divide and empower our youth through mentoring, training, and empowerment.
“Through this initiative, we are fostering a generation of tech-savvy entrepreneurs, problem-solvers, and change-makers.
This government-led initiative underscores our commitment to fostering a digitally inclusive society, one where young people are not just consumers of technology but active creators, innovators, and change-makers. We recognize that our greatest asset is our youth, and by investing in their ICT skills, we are investing in the future prosperity of our nation” he said.
He urged all beneficiaries of this program to take full advantage of this opportunity, stating that embrace the training, be innovative, and use technology as a tool for growth and
transformation.
“Together, with the support of our governor, private sector partners, and
dedicated mentors, we can build a skilled, tech-savvy generation ready to lead in the digital economy.
As we launch the M.O.R.E ICT-YEP today, let us reaffirm our commitment to creating an inclusive, innovative, and technology-driven society” he asserted.
While giving his remarks, Tech Expert Mr Collins Onihe advised participants to pick an area of interest, stating that this would help them be professionals in that particular field.
Earlier during his address, one of the beneficiaries from past training, Mr. Ebikeme Ebirede, urged beneficiaries to take the training program seriously, stating that today, I can proudly call myself an employer of labor.
