The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has declared that the 30th May 2026 event was not merely a sit-at-home but rather a solemn act of remembrance.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Spokesperson/Media and Publicity Secretary IPOB- Comrade Emma Powerful, the body described it as a collective tribute by a grateful people to millions of innocent men, women, and children who perished during the genocidal war waged against Biafra.
IPOB wholeheartedly congratulated Biafrans across the world for the successful and historic observance of 30th May 2026, a sacred day set aside to honour and remember our fallen heroes and heroines whose supreme sacrifices made our existence possible today.
IPOB: “Today was not merely a sit-at-home. It was a solemn act of remembrance. It was a collective tribute by a grateful people to millions of innocent men, women, and children who perished during the genocidal war waged against Biafra”.
According to the group, it was a day when Biafrans everywhere paused to reflect on the pain, courage, resilience, and sacrifices of those who gave everything so that future generations would never forget who they are.
While extending their profound appreciation to Biafrans, friends of Biafra, lovers of freedom, and all advocates of justice who have consistently honoured this annual remembrance through the years, the body acknowledged their commitment which has demonstrated that the memories of there departed heroes and heroines remain alive in the hearts of our people despite every attempt to erase or distort our history.
IPOB also offer special gratitude to the people of Anambra, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Benue, Kogi, Edo, and every community across Biafraland that participated peacefully in memorial activities and commemorative gatherings.
They expressed appreciation adding that their unity and discipline have once again shown the world that Biafrans remain a people bound together by history, sacrifice, and a common destiny.
IPOB: “Through the unwavering efforts and leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Biafrans have been able to reclaim their history and preserve the memories of those who paid the ultimate price during one of the darkest chapters of our collective existence”.
The body pointed out that the Biafra war can never be permanently buried beneath propaganda, distortion, or political convenience adding that every year, the members will gather to remember their dead, to reaffirm their commitment to historical truth and to ensuring that the sacrifices of their heroes and heroines are neither forgotten nor diminished.
IPOB also commends Biafrans in over one hundred countries around the world who organised peaceful marches, memorial services, candlelight processions, prayers, and public awareness events to honour our departed heroes and heroines.
They particularly acknowledge their family members and supporters in India, the United States, Japan, China, Germany, Spain, France, Mexico, Morocco, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Denmark, Indonesia, Canada, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, nations across Africa, and countless other countries not specifically mentioned here.
They pointed out that their participation demonstrates that although Biafrans may be scattered across continents, but we remain united by a shared history, shared memories, and an unbreakable bond with those who sacrificed everything for our survival.
Comrade Emma Piwerful said that the successful observance of this year’s remembrance has once again written a new chapter in the history of our people adding that 30th May is now permanently etched into the conscience of the Biafran nation as a day of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance.
He said that future generations will continue to gather on this day every year to honour those who gave their lives so that we might live and to remember their heroes and heroines today.
He said: “Let us never forget that nations endure when their people remember. Let us teach our children the stories of courage, sacrifice, and resilience, and let us preserve the memories of the innocent victims whose lives were cut short. Let us ensure that the tears, suffering, and sacrifices of our departed heroes and heroines were not in vain”.
