John Moses and Yakubu Mohammed, natives of Kaduna State, have both received Death by Hanging and Surgical Castration, respectively, for a rape offense in Kaduna State.
The news was disclosed to Daily Trust on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, by the state Commissioner for the Ministry of Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Rabi Salisu. She furthered her disclosure with the announcement that a third defendant, identified as Mustapha Musa, who played an active role in the rape case, received a life sentence.
Salisu, in her report, mentioned that between June 2024 and February 2025, the Ministry has recorded three convictions for rape offenses, signaling the importance of these rulings as a potential deterrent for future occurrences.
She said:
โThe ministry obtained a conviction on June 7, 2024, before Hon. Justice Nana in case KDH/KAD/57c/2023, State Vs. John Moses. The defendant was found guilty on two counts of rape and incest under Section 258(1) of the Penal Code Law 2017, as amended, and sentenced to death by hanging and surgical castration,โ she stated.
โOn February 6, 2025, we secured another conviction before Hon. Justice B. Yusuf in case KDH/KAD/69c/2023, State Vs. Yakubu Mohammed. The defendant was convicted on two counts of rape under Section 258(1) of the Penal Code Law 2017, as amended, and sentenced to death by hanging and surgical castration,โ she added.
โAdditionally, on February 24, 2025, Hon. Justice Isa Aliyu presided over case KDH/KAD/66c/2021, State Vs. Mustapha Musa. The defendant was also found guilty on two counts of rape under Section 258 of the Penal Code Law and sentenced to life imprisonment.โ

The fair judgment delivered to the offenders has sent signals to all and sundry that the Nigerian Constitution frowns upon any act termed as rape.
Conclusively, Hajiya Rabiu Salisu acknowledged the legal ingenuity of M.P. Danjuma Esq. and Halimatu S. Bello Esq., who handled the case with the necessary fairness.
