Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has threatened to kill anyone caught rigging the 2027 general elections, warning that electoral malpractice would not be tolerated.
Omo-Agege, who is seeking to represent Delta Central Senatorial District under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), made the remarks during the flag-off of his campaign in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
“I want to make news again: Anybody who rigs election that day, we will kill him. Rig and die. If you don’t value your life, come and rig the election,” he declared.
The former lawmaker accused those who manipulate election results of undermining the future of Nigerians and their children, insisting that electoral fraud deprives citizens of their right to choose their leaders.
“They are rigging your future; they are rigging the future of your children. We are waiting for them. Let them try. Rig and die. We are going to do it aura for aura. We are just looking at them,” he said.
Omo-Agege also criticised the tendency to advise politicians who complain about electoral malpractice to seek redress in court, arguing that such responses fail to address the consequences of manipulating election results.
His remarks come as political parties and candidates intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with electoral transparency and the credibility of the voting process expected to remain key issues.
The threat has also raised concerns about the potential for political violence during the elections. Electoral offences are matters for the appropriate law enforcement agencies and courts to address under the law.
Omo-Agege is seeking to win the Delta Central senatorial seat, currently held by All Progressives Congress (APC) senator Ede Dafinone. Other contenders include Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate AI Arhagba Ighogbedjere and several other candidates.
