Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has mocked Peter Obi’s presidential ambition, describing the former Anambra State governor as a social media favourite who lacks the capacity to govern Nigeria.
Wike made the remarks on Saturday during a stakeholders’ town hall meeting in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he dismissed Obi’s chances of winning the 2027 presidential election.
The minister said he would vote for Obi if the contest were for the president of social media but argued that online popularity was not enough to qualify him to lead the country.
“Truly speaking, I give Obi president of social media. If you were voting for the president of social media, I would vote for him,” Wike said.
He also described Obi as a stingy politician, questioning his leadership style and suitability for the presidency.
Wike reportedly criticised the former governor for carrying his own bags instead of employing a personal assistant, arguing that such conduct reflected a leadership approach he considered unsuitable for Nigeria’s highest political office.
The FCT minister has repeatedly criticised Obi and other opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general election.
Wike, who is involved in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign in Abuja and Rivers State, has also expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure re-election.
His latest comments add to the growing political exchanges among major contenders and their supporters as preparations for the 2027 presidential election intensify.
