
Mia Love, a trailblazing politician who made history as the first Black woman elected to Congress as a Republican, has passed away at the age of 49.
According to a statement from her family, Love died peacefully at home on Sunday, surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Her family shared the news on X, expressing their gratitude for her profound impact: “With hearts overflowing with gratitude for the influence Mia had on our lives, we want you to know that she passed away peacefully today.”
Utah Governor Spencer Cox also paid tribute, calling her “a true trailblazer and visionary leader.”
Love served as the U.S. Representative for Utah’s 4th Congressional District from 2015 to 2019. Her historic election and dedicated service left a lasting legacy in American politics. She will be remembered not only for breaking barriers but also for her unwavering commitment to public service and her inspiring personal journey.
