Driven by adventure and a desire to acquire a pilot’s license, he took to the skies in a private plane. That flight ended in disaster. The crash left him severely incapacitated, both physically and mentally. Once a man who made critical decisions for a state, he was now confined to a wheelchair, clutching a toy like a child. He struggled to recognize even his own wife and children. The allies who once surrounded him vanished. The political associates who once praised him were nowhere to be found.
