Sadly, it took the 440-page autobiography of former military head of state, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, to realize that the annulled 1993 presidential election was, in the real sense of it, won by the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola, a fact that Nigerians are not oblivious to.
This disturbing revelation of nationwide relevance was made by the reviewer of the book, former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, in Abuja on Thursday during the book review. It was also acknowledged that the late Abiola met the necessary requirements of securing a majority of votes and the acclamation of the required geographical spread to emerge victorious in the 1993 general election.
Former Military Head of State, General Babangida, described his participation in the annulment as the most challenging decision of his life in its entirety.
In his words:
โThere was no doubt in my mind; MKO Abiola won the election. He satisfied all the requirements.โ
General Babangida, however, commended the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari for deeming it fit to offer the late legend and icon of June 12 a posthumous honour exclusive to only presidents as the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR).
Isn’t this a case of “medicine after death”?
