The Tinubu-led administration has finally paid corpers the pledged โฆ77,000 allowance.
Reports gathered indicate that corp members confirmed the payment of the new “allawee” on Wednesday, March 26th, shortly after bank notifications buzzed on their phones, revealing the said figure.
The payment of the new allowance came in the wake of the Channels TV interview that Ayodele Olawande, the Minister of Youth Development, granted, assuring Nigerians that the backlog would be cleared by the end of March.
The news of the โฆ77,000 new allowance has been circulating for a while, leaving corp members agog with hopes that are dashed by each failing attempt on the part of the federal government. The government has, however, stated that the delay is caused by some budgetary constraints and bureaucratic bottlenecks.
Explaining the cause of the delay, Ayodele Olawande said that things are procedural.
“I have explained this several times. Some people say I always mention itโs a process, and it is seriously a process. It was not in the budget when the president announced it. Some agencies and parastatals need to have their salaries included in the budget before anything can be done or paid out,” he said.
Speaking further, the minister stated that the presidency had given its approval for the payment a long time ago, but emphasized that a budgetary allocation must be in place to cater to the financial needs of the beneficiaries.
“Anybody can approve anything, but you must have a budgetary allocation for it. Now, they are done with the process. It has been approved and signed. Now, they can start taking it,” Olawande added.
