United States Congressman Riley Moore has welcomed the reported arrest of Mahmoud Adam in Plateau State, saying the development could signal progress in security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.
Moore, a Republican member of the US House of Representatives, commended the Nigerian government following reports that Adam was taken into custody on September 12 at his compound in Plateau State.
The lawmaker said the reported arrest demonstrated that efforts by both countries to strengthen security cooperation were beginning to produce results.
He also credited the US Congress and the administration of President Donald Trump for their efforts to address attacks against Christian communities in Nigeria.
The reported arrest was first highlighted in a report by The Daily Caller, which alleged that Adam had links to a terrorist network and was connected to attacks on Christian communities.
According to the report, Adam is a prominent Fulani community leader in Plateau State and was arrested early on September 12. The publication said some of the information surrounding the case came from a whistleblower and other sources.
However, the allegations against Adam and the circumstances surrounding his reported arrest have not been fully clarified by Nigerian security authorities.
Moore has previously advocated closer security cooperation between Washington and Abuja over violence affecting Christian communities and other vulnerable groups in Nigeria.
In February 2026, he joined other US lawmakers in presenting a report to the White House that proposed stronger US-Nigeria security cooperation as part of measures to address extremist violence and protect vulnerable communities.
The latest development comes amid continued efforts by Nigeria and the United States to deepen cooperation on security and counterterrorism.
