Former ARISE News anchor Dr Constance Ikokwu has been appointed spokesperson for the Obi-Kwankwaso National Campaign Council of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Her appointment was contained in the list of members of the party’s National Campaign Council released as the NDC prepares to strengthen its campaign structure and public communication ahead of the polls.
Ikokwu brings more than two decades of experience in journalism, having worked across print, radio and television. Her previous roles include Washington, DC Bureau Chief and Deputy Editor at THISDAY Newspapers, as well as political analyst and anchor at ARISE News.
She holds a PhD in Journalism and Communications, with research focused on the relationship between media and politics. She has also worked as a strategic communications adviser to former Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and former Industry, Trade and Investment Minister Okechukwu Enelamah.
The former broadcaster recently participated in the NDC’s nomination process for the House of Representatives seat representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in Anambra State.
In her new role, Ikokwu is expected to communicate the positions and policies of presidential candidate Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, while engaging journalists and explaining the party’s programmes and priorities.
Her appointment comes as the NDC constitutes its National Campaign Council to coordinate activities and mobilise support across the country ahead of the 2027 elections.
The council is chaired by the party’s National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, while Obi serves as co-chairman. The party’s National Chairman, Cleopas Zuwoghe, is vice-chairman, with Kwankwaso as co-vice chairman.
Ibrahim Hussain Abdulkarim was appointed Director-General of the campaign council, while the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, will oversee communication and media affairs.
The NDC is expected to formally inaugurate the council in Abuja on Monday, October 26, 2026.
