Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have recovered 1,270 rounds of high calibre 12.7mm ammunition, including live rounds and warheads, concealed inside a drainage channel in the Bulumkutu Railway area of Maiduguri, Borno State.
The cache was uncovered on Friday around 3:00 p.m. following a tip off from residents who noticed suspicious metallic objects inside the channel.
Troops immediately mobilised to the location alongside Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams, cordoning off the area and carrying out a detailed search.
Several power banks were also recovered from the same spot. Security personnel are continuing efforts to drain the drainage channel to determine whether additional items were hidden there.
No casualties were recorded during the operation, and the area remains calm under increased security presence.
The discovery underscores ongoing intelligence led operations and community cooperation aimed at denying terrorist groups access to weapons in the North East.
Residents have been urged to continue reporting suspicious objects or movements to security agencies.
