Nigerians are yet to recover from the gruesome murder of Hafsoh Yetunde by AbdulRahman when a similar tragedy struck Ogunbode Quadri Adedamola, a 28-year-old graduate of Political Science Education Department of the Lagos State University.
Adedamola, the owner of Horlar Edu Consultancy at the LASU Campus, was reportedly said to have visited his church premises, CCC Ileri Oluwa Parish, LASU 2, over an undisclosed assignment. His girlfriend (name withheld) alleged that she had called him that day to inquire about his whereabouts, and in return, he mentioned that he would call her back as he was in front of the church.
Further revelations from Adedamola’s girlfriend revealed that he never called back, sparking feelings of curiosity and suspicion. The police, at the girlfriend’s request, have since gone to the church, where the presiding shepherd stated that he was unaware of the deceased’s whereabouts.
The police swiftly intensified their investigation by obtaining the bank statement of Adedamola, where it was discovered that an amount of money totaling 1.5 million naira had been diverted from his account to the Shepherd’s account, as well as his son and daughter.
When questioned about how the funds appeared in his account, Evangelist Whepetoji Babaniyeh initially denied any wrongdoing but later succumbed when presented with bank statement evidence showing how the diversion took place. In later confession, Evang Babaniyeh claimed that the money was for Thanksgiving, a confession that left the police with no choice but to detain him.
When probed further, Evang Babaniyeh confessed to having killed Adedamola and burying his remains on the church premises. Upon further investigation, weapons such as an axe and a gun were found, while some body parts of Adedamola are yet to be discovered.
The Presiding Shepherd of the Celestial Church has been detained indefinitely and is awaiting trial.
