Houses, Churches, and Schools Destroyed By Rainstorm In Ondo
The evening rainstorm in Ondo State on Monday destroyed many structures, including houses, churches,, and schools in some communities, particularly in Akure North Local Government Area of the state.
The rainstorm, which lasted about one hour, rendered homeless many residents of Eleyewo, Ilu Abo, and Bolorunduro, among others.
Lamenting the losses, one of the residents in Ilu-Abo, Mrs. Sola Adesuyan, said the rainstorm began in a ferocious manner, which led to the destruction of many structures.
He said: “Many of us here have been rendered homeless now because the roofs were blown off by the wind
“We are just grateful to God that there were no casualties despite the magnitude of destruction.
“Considering the rise in the cost of building materials, several millions of Naira would be needed to fix these homes, churches, and schools.”
At Ilu-Abo, the storm blew up a church roof and landed it on a Toyota Camry, popularly known as Pencil, parked by another resident in front of his house.
The LA Primary School at Ilu-Abo was hit as the roof was shattered, while the perimeter fence of a church, Possibility Church, was reduced to rubble by the rainstorm.
A Redeemed Christian Church of God(RCCG) in the town was also seriously affected as the roof was destroyed and the ceiling crashed.
One of the victims of the rainstorm, Mr. Lukmon Haruna, whose shops and stalls were destroyed, said, “It was just too heavy, as we could not salvage anything while the downpour lasted.
“Over 20 houses and churches were destroyed by the rain. So, we are begging Mr Governor (Lucky Aiyedatiwa ) and other philanthropists to assist us.”
