The Independent National Electoral Commission has released the final list of candidates for the 2027 National Assembly elections, formally setting the stage for contests for the 109 senatorial seats across Nigeria.
The publication has given political parties and their candidates a clearer picture of the contenders ahead of the January 16, 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.
The Senate race is expected to feature a mix of serving senators, former lawmakers, governors completing their tenure in 2027 and new political entrants seeking seats in the next National Assembly.
With the final list now published, political parties are expected to intensify their campaigns, mobilisation and grassroots activities ahead of the election.
Several prominent politicians are among those listed to contest. They include former governors, serving lawmakers and other major political figures across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
In Delta State, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is listed as the All Progressives Congress candidate for Delta North, while the race in Delta Central includes incumbent Senator Ede Dafinone of the APC and other candidates representing major political parties.
In Edo North, former Governor Adams Oshiomhole is listed as the APC candidate, while the Federal Capital Territory race features Philip Aduda of the APC against incumbent Senator Ireti Kingibe of the African Democratic Congress and candidates from other parties.
Kano North is also expected to attract attention, with Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin listed as the APC candidate.
In Kogi Central, former Governor Yahaya Bello is listed as the APC candidate, with incumbent Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan contesting on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Other notable names appearing across the list include Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele in Ekiti Central, Senate spokesman Adeyemi Adaramodu in Ekiti South and several serving and former governors contesting senatorial seats.
The final list contains candidates sponsored by different political parties across the senatorial districts, with the APC, ADC, NDC and PDP featuring prominently in many of the contests.
The release of the list marks another major step in preparations for the 2027 elections and is expected to intensify political competition across the country as candidates begin full-scale efforts to secure victory at the polls.
