Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has expressed confidence in defeating incumbent Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in the 2027 Kogi Central senatorial election, predicting a massive vote for himself and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bello made the declaration during an appearance on TVC’s Politics Sunday, where he spoke about his chances of securing the senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Asked whether he could defeat Akpoti-Uduaghan, whom the interviewer described as a popular opponent, the former governor maintained that the election results would determine his political standing.
“The result will speak for itself,” he said.
Bello was also questioned about whether he remained popular enough to retain his nickname, the “White Lion.”
In response, he said, “Let the day come and go.”
When pressed to predict the outcome of the election, the former governor declared, “Massive vote. Decisive victory.”
He subsequently clarified that his prediction referred to a victory for himself and the APC.
Bello governed Kogi State from 2016 to 2024 and is seeking a return to elective office through the Kogi Central senatorial seat.
His ambition sets up a high-profile contest with Akpoti-Uduaghan, who currently represents the district in the Senate.
While Bello has projected confidence in his electoral prospects, the outcome of the contest will ultimately depend on voters’ decisions at the polls in 2027.
