Legendary actor Jide Kosoko has shed light on the sex-for-role barter system of trade that is prevalent in the Nollywood industry.
Speaking at the Honest Bunch Podcast, the actor revealed that the sex-for-role game is often initiated on the basis of consent, adding that no producer will force an actress to engage in sexual acts without her consent.
Providing clarity, the actor stated that his submission is not to justify the lustfulness of movie producers; however, if the actress agrees to the terms of “lamba for roles,” then it is between both of them and doesnโt concern the world.
“I donโt understand. If I say I need you to come and warm my bed so that I can give you this role, and you say no, you donโt want to, go! You donโt want to! They cannot force you to do that. If anybody introduces anything to you, if youโre not interested, say no. But if you want that role by all means, that means you want to dance to his tune. Iโm not saying heโs right to have introduced that to you, but if he says it one way or the other, and you fall for it, thatโs your business. How does that concern the whole world?โ
Jide Kosoko notified the Honest Bunch Podcast crew and members of the public that some actresses actually come to producers bearing the thought of bedding them in mind. According to him, they believe that after sleeping with “who is who,” their fame will skyrocket in the industry.
โAll this sex-for-roles thing, forget about it. I know some ladies who are equally coming into the industry with the determination that โby the time I sleep with this person, sleep with that person, I will get my name out there.โ I know of some popular actresses; I even know of a magistrate.โ
โHow will you accept going to sleep with someone? How much do you trust yourself and your ability to deliver?โ
In the past, several actressesโtoo numerous to countโhave accused the producers of the industry of demanding sex from them to star as lead characters or even as ordinary cast members. While some have fled, abandoning their craft and taking up alternatives, others have perhaps given in just to carve a niche for themselves in the industry.
