Tragedy strikes Osun State University as five students have been reported dead from the effects of a ghastly auto crash.
The tragic incident, which occurred around the Balogun Area of Ikire on Sunday, 23 March 2025, involved a luxury vehicle from Ibadan and an 18-seater bus coming from Osogbo.
The head-on collision, which claimed the lives of ten, with five being students of Osun State University, has left the area in disarray.
The institution’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, in a statement, identified the deceased as Olagbemide Dotun, a 2nd-year student in the Department of Software Engineering; Suleiman Farouq, a 400-level Law student; Ogundare Pelumi, a 300-level student in the Public Health Department; Ogundare Elijah, a 100-level Mechanical Engineering student; and Olawuyi Mary, who was a 2nd-year Nursing student.
Another victim of the head-on collision, Olagbemide Damilola, a 200-level Medicine and Surgery student, survived the accident and is currently receiving medical attention.
Upon receiving notification of the incident, the institution’s management promptly deployed a rescue team to the scene to provide necessary support.
The management of the Osun State University has sent words of encouragement to the families of the deceased, stating that it will provide moral and logistical support, including funeral arrangements.
The university’s Public Relations Officer said, “This tragic loss has deeply shaken our university community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the deceased.”
