A devastating fire engulfed a residential building in Oyo town, resulting in the loss of properties valued at millions of naira. The incident occurred on Thursday morning, March 27, 2025, at Prince Bayo Sanda Villa in the Farade area.
The blaze was attributed to a power surge that happened when electricity was restored by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC). According to the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, the fire was reported at approximately 10:35 AM. Firefighters, led by PFS11 Makinde, promptly responded to the scene and found the building fully engulfed in flames. Despite their swift action, the entire structure was consumed by the fire, resulting in the destruction of properties worth millions of naira.
Efforts to combat the inferno were bolstered by the Federal Fire Service Oyo Command, which collaborated with the state fire service during the firefighting operation. Firefighters managed to prevent the flames from spreading to adjacent buildings, thereby safeguarding properties valued at billions of naira.
This incident underscores the critical importance of electrical safety and the need for residents to be vigilant when power is restored after outages. Ensuring that electrical appliances are properly managed can help prevent such tragic occurrences in the future.
