Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has firmly debunked widespread rumors suggesting he plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, the governor described the reports as “false, baseless, and unfounded,” stressing that he remains committed to the Labour Party — the platform under which he emerged victorious in the 2023 elections.
Otti clarified that his recent meeting with Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, was purely social. He explained that he attended Uzodinma’s family event — the birthday celebration of his twin daughters — and not a political meeting as speculated.
“The report that His Excellency, Governor Alex Otti, held a meeting with Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State over an alleged plan to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is completely false,” the statement read.
Reiterating his loyalty, Governor Otti assured the people of Abia that he has no intentions of leaving the Labour Party. “Governor Otti remains a committed member of the Labour Party and is not in any discussion or negotiation to join the APC or any other political party,” Ekeoma emphasized.
The governor also urged the public and political commentators to shift focus away from unfounded speculations and support efforts towards governance and development. He assured that any decision with far-reaching implications for the state would be made transparently and in collaboration with the people and key stakeholders.
