Unknown gunmen stormed four villages in Ondo State, killing several indigenes and residents.
A correspondent reports that the affected villagesโAba Alajido, Aba Sunday, Aba Pastor, and Ademekunโwere attacked by the suspects, leaving two scores dead and rendering the others who managed to escape internally displaced.
Speaking in light of the situation on Monday, a policeman assured that normalcy will be restored to the territory as police officers have been deployed to the affected areas. The spokesperson also mentioned that no fewer than 14 bodies have been recovered so far, albeit searches are still ongoing.
โOur men were immediately deployed in the area when the report reached the command on Saturday. As Iโm speaking with you, about 14 dead bodies have been recovered in the villages,โ he said.
A resident named Sunday, however, shared with the press what he saw, stating that 40 persons were killed as opposed to the 14, and that some of the bodies are yet to be discovered.
Speaking further, he said the bandits had endlessly terrorized their territory, with last Monday’s attack being the most dastardly attack they’ve ever had.
“They attacked our communities on Friday night when everyone was asleep. They opened fire on everyone in sight. So many ran to the bush for safety, while some unlucky ones were killed in the villages. I am sure that over 40 people have been killed, while many have sustained injuries.”
