
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested eight secondary school students for allegedly engaging in cult-related activities within their school premises.
According to The People’s Insight, the students were reportedly involved in acts of intimidation, extortion, and other cult-like behaviors, raising concerns among school authorities.
Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, identified the suspects as:
– Omolaso Waris (16 years)
– Bennett Bolawatife (15 years)
– Aluko Taiwo (15 years)
– Akinola Ifeoluwa (16 years)
– Azeez Hassan (16 years)
– Kilani Babatunde (aka Soldier) (16 years)
– Kehinde Aluko (15 years)
– Fasedemi Samuel (16 years)
The incident came to light when the Vice Principal of Ifo High School, Mr. Alako Oluwole, alongside a teacher, Mr. Akinseku Oloruntoba Julius, reported to the police that a group of students had been causing disturbances and extorting valuables from their peers.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the students had been initiated into the cult group by two senior students, identified as Ebenezer Ope (the group’s President) and Ebenezer Tobi, both in SSS 1.
SP Odutola stated that the police have launched a comprehensive investigation to uncover the full extent of cult activities in the school and prevent future occurrences. She confirmed that the arrested students would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further questioning.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, has directed that the students appear before him on the next working day for further interviews. He emphasized that appropriate measures, including counselling and mentoring, would be arranged to reform the students.
Reiterating his commitment to maintaining law and order in Ogun State, CP Ogunlowo urged parents, teachers, and community leaders to work together in eradicating cultism from schools.
