The Ramadan Palliatives organized by Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to commemorate the Ramadan fast have been looted by irate youth in Gombe State.
Seyi Tinubu was said to have joined the Gombe State government in breaking the Iftar (the meal to break the fast) when he visited the state in the north, a visit that was branded as a Ramadan outreach and part of the Renewed Hope Youth Engagement initiative.
Seyi Tinubu had visited with two trucks containing 3,500 cartons of rice, sugar, oil, salt, and pasta to be distributed to the citizens of the state.
Correspondents reported that the distribution exercise was going smoothly, leading to a successful offloading of one of the trucks before irate youths intruded, hijacking the second truck and dispersing goods as they pleased without following due protocols.
When the reason behind the youths’ actions was investigated, sources revealed that they intervened after discovering that some citizens of the state were not informed about the distribution process, which took place at the state All Progressive Congress (APC) Secretariat.
The youths’ actions have sparked reactions, with some describing it as unconstitutional behaviour and a lack of discipline, while others have expressed displeasure over the way certain officials secretly divert goods meant for the general public’s benefit.
