Crisis at ECWA Wuse II Deepens Over Pastor’s Reinstatement Amid Sexual Allegations
The leadership crisis at the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) Wuse II has escalated following the controversial reinstatement of Senior Pastor Rev. Azaki Nashon, despite allegations of sexual misconduct.
Concerned members of the church have strongly opposed the decision, calling it a betrayal of due process and transparency.
Rev. Nashon was reinstated on Sunday, March 23, 2025, by the Garki District Church Council (DCC), led by Chairman Rev. Samson Jonah, in defiance of recommendations made by an investigative committee set up to probe the allegations against him. Declaring him innocent, the DCC chairman announced his return, a move that has sparked outrage among congregants.
The crisis began with a petition submitted to ECWA Headquarters on January 6, 2025, by concerned church members, urging the removal of Rev. Nashon over allegations of sexual misconduct and other violations. The petition was followed by a formal letter from Dr. George Ogunyomi, a legal practitioner from O.E.B Offiong & Co Chambers, acting on behalf of the petitioners.
In his letter dated February 3, 2025, Dr. Ogunyomi accused Rev. Nashon of breaching ECWA’s guidelines and questioned why he was allowed to continue in office despite what was described as clear evidence of wrongdoing. The investigative committee, after reviewing the allegations, reportedly recommended disciplinary action. However, the DCC’s decision to reinstate him has raised serious concerns about transparency and accountability within the church’s leadership.
Many church members have expressed disappointment in the DCC, accusing Rev. Jonah of manipulating the investigative process to protect the embattled pastor. They argue that the chairman distorted facts and disregarded the committee’s findings, further eroding trust in his leadership.
Adding to the controversy, Rev. Nashon is still under criminal investigation by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP). Despite this, he was verbally asked to resume his duties, even before ECWA Headquarters had issued a final decision on his case.
With tensions mounting, concerned members are urging the ECWA Executive (EE) to take decisive action to restore order and credibility. They are demanding a thorough review of the investigative committee’s original report and an inquiry into the DCC’s handling of the matter.
The aggrieved members insist that the ECWA Executive must assume direct control of ECWA Wuse II to prevent further division and uphold the church’s core principles of accountability and justice.
As the situation unfolds, all eyes are on ECWA Headquarters to see whether it will act to resolve the crisis or risk further damage to the church’s reputation.
