Customer Punches Security Guard To Death At Popular Eatery In Rivers
A security guard and father of three children, Ifeanyi Ani, who hails from Enugu state, was allegedly beaten to death by a customer at a Popular eatery close to Shell Gate in Rumukrushi,Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State on Thursday evening.
According to a source, the male customer, whose identity is yet to be known, parked his car to purchase some food at the eatery but left his headlamp on.
Consequently, the security guard went to the car to tell the driver to turn off his light but discovered that it was only the man’s wife who was in the car.
While the security guard was telling the man’s wife to dim the head lamp, the man came out of the eatery and asked the guard what he was telling the wife.
The security guard, in response, explained that he was attempting to direct the occupant of the vehicle to reduce the brightness of the car’s headlight.
According to the source, an altercation between them and the customer and the guard ensued, prompting the angry customer to strike the guard severally with his first, leading to his collapse and eventual death of the guard.
Our correspondent gathered following the development, the management of the eatery arrested the customer and handed him over to the Mini-Okoro Police Division.
Speaking on the incident, a human rights advocate, Prince Wiro, said, that a sister to the security guard, Chinaza Ani approached his organization, Centre for Basic Rights Protection And Accountability Campaign, and its Partner, Lawyers Watch For Justice International Initiative (LAWJII) in search for justice, later asked that the groups stay action because their family wants to have a meeting with certain persons.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, a superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident, adding that the investigation was ongoing.
