The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has confirmed that social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, alias VeryDarkMan, was arrested by some of its officials and is presently in their custody.
The EFCC detailed that the activist was apprehended over a series of petitions that were filed against him by individuals whose names the agency is keeping confidential.
Speaking on Monday to notify the members of the public, especially the eager fans of the activist, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale noted that the arrest was made to afford VeryDarkMan the chance to respond to several allegations raised by complainants against him.
“We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations raised by some petitioners.”
Oyewale hinted that the release of VeryDarkMan will happen sooner than expected once the activist is able to meet the conditions of his bail application, especially as the commission plans to take the case to court soon.
Oyewale clarified that the petitions against the activist came from various individuals, covering multiple cases beyond just the GT Bank matter that some had speculated was behind his detention.
