
A tragic accident has rocked the Catholic community and the people of Cross River State as seven seminarians lost their lives and nine others sustained injuries in a devastating auto crash near the Obudu Mountain Resort.
The seminarians, who were reportedly on an excursion to the famous Obudu Cattle Ranch on Saturday, May 3, met their untimely end at the Ikwette community, located near the base of the hill just outside the main resort area.

Preliminary investigations suggest the vehicle conveying the group suffered brake failure while descending the hill after their tour. The loss of control led to the fatal crash, cutting short the lives of young men dedicated to religious service.
The deceased have been identified as:
– Bro. Somadina Ibe-Ojukulu
– Bro. Chinedum Nwachukwu
– Bro. Marcel Ezenwafor
– Bro. Gerald Nwogueze
– Bro. Kingsley Nwosu
– Bro. Wilfred Aleke
– Bro. Chukwudi Obueze
Nine others sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.
A representative of the diocese confirmed the heartbreaking incident and called for prayers, saying,
“This is a deeply painful moment for the Church and the families involved. We ask for prayers and support as we navigate this difficult time.”
Further investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
